Create an account
Sign up for a free Bookrata account to get started. Authors join the same platform readers use to find books that fit their interests and values.
Submit for verification
Fill out the author application under Become an Author in the account menu, then submit for verification. Once approved, your verified-author status unlocks the full author toolkit.
Upload your manuscripts
Securely upload the manuscripts you want rated. Our AI analyzes the content across our six categories and assigns transparent, consistent tier ratings.
Connect with the right readers
Our tags describe themes, tropes, and stories, not just genre. Readers can use those tags and their own content filters to find books that fit what they want.
Instructions
After creating your account, head to Become an Author in the account menu and fill out the author application. Once submitted, our team will review your submission for verification. You'll receive an email when your verified-author status is active.

Our Content Categories
Every book is rated 1–5 across six categories based on the level, amount, and presentation of the content. We do not make value judgments. We describe what is in the book, and the reader decides.
Language
Language is rated by frequency, intensity, and how it is used in context, from clean dialogue to extreme profanity.
Sexuality
Sexual content is rated by detail, frequency, and how central it is to the story, from innocent romance to explicit scenes.
Violence
Violence is rated by level, amount, and presentation, from mild conflict to graphic gore.
Wellness
Mental health, addiction, eating, and lifestyle themes are rated by how they are depicted and whether they are glorified or examined.
LGBTQ+
Identities, relationships, and themes are rated by presence and prominence, not as a value judgment.
Religion
Faith, spirituality, ritual, and critique are rated by emphasis and presentation, never by belief.

Our co-founder Marcus Williams is a published author. He built Bookrata with the same protections he'd want for his own work because they're the same protections he uses for his own work.
We rate books for one reason: to help readers find the right book. We never sell your manuscript, redistribute it, or use it to train external models. You decide when and where to sell your book.

Uploaded files are encrypted in transit and at rest. Only systems involved in rating can read them.
Privacy-locked AI pipeline
We use LLMs configured with strict privacy settings that prohibit external data leakage or training on your work.

Audited access
